Hi, I’m Raina.

Thanks for visiting!

I’m a biologist by training and a photographer / graphic artist by nature. My research interests include animal behaviour, behavioural neuroscience, and bioacoustics.

I’m fascinated by questions about how cognitive processes shape social behaviour and communication, and how these answers can inform policy and conservation. I’m particularly drawn to behavioural adaptations that have evolved under the unique constraints of aquatic and marine environments.

I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing groups studying bottlenose dolphins, songbirds, crustaceans, all kinds of fishes, humpback whales, and killer whales. I fill spare moments in the lab and field with taking nature photos.

When not collecting observations at sea or analyzing data, you’ll probably find me on the water training and racing as a competitive outrigger canoer.

I currently work, live, and play in beautiful Vancouver, BC.
